Francisca Reyes Aquino, Leonor Orosa Goquingco, Lucrecia Urtula, Ramon Obusan. These are only a few of the teachers who have done extensive research in Philippine folk dancing.

Bayanihan, Larawan, Baranggay, Filipinana, Saling-Gawi. These are just some of the names of the different folk dance troupes in the Philippines that I became familiar with as I was growing up.

Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao. These are the three major island groups that comprises the Philippine Archipelago. From these three groups, they are further subdivided into regions and provinces, each of which have distinct cultural traditions that were passed on, just as Philippine folk dances have evolved in time.

Different teachers,
different interpretations,
different provinces,
different versions.
So many things to follow,
different techniques to keep in mind.
I cannot keep track,
I am now in a bind.
The wave of the hand,
the position of the feet,
the tilt of the head,
the movement of the hip.
Whatever they are,
whichever to turn,
I would still want to dance,
I am patient, I will learn.
