Philippine
Scholars Project
How
You Can Help Kids Stay in School
(All contributions are tax deductible)
This is
a program in which people in the U.S. can send a little money to help
keep a needy kid in the Philippines in school. It started as a way
to help the families of displaced tenant farmers, and the program
on the islands of Cebu and Bohol is still centered here. But now it
also helps other kids, too, especially in Davao City, where the money
goes directly toward tuition in a certain school. Gary King visits
the kids in the Philippines at least every 24 months, to coordinate
the program, meet the Scholars and their families, and verify the
accounting.
You
will get regular letters from your Scholar, a yearly report card,
and reports of my visits and photos. The program is in its 6th year,
and has more than 80 students. Due to corporate matches covering
overhead, every penny of your gift goes to the family of your Scholar.
Method
1: One hour per year of your time
- Receive
a quarterly update and request.
- Write
a check for $50. Send back in provided envelope.
- Write
or email the Scholar a note twice a year, cheering him/her on.
Method
2: Two hours per year, get better acquainted
-
Same as above, only ask your kids to write to the Scholar maybe
once per quarter.
-
Tell them about your family, send a photo
Method
3: Three hours per year, become a friend
-
Write longer letters, share your life.
-
Send a little extra on the Holidays.
